Why I wrote the book “Pretty for a black girl”
People keep asking me this question so here it is…….
I wrote this book because it is a topic that I am absolutely passionate about. I believe that we all pass judgments and assumptions off on one another based on color and (or) race. I may be consider a dark skin women to some of you and for some of you, you see me as light skin women. Everyone has their own standards to what these are. In my family my grandfather on my mother’s side is Indian and white, and my grandfather on my dad side is black and white. So, most of the women on both sides are fairly light skin; or look like white women. However, they are black. Being that I have said that I have been surrounded by all different types of people, and have heard stereotypes from both and several sides of the fence. I did not mention these details in my book.
What bothers me the most is when people act as if they truly care about this matter (subject)? They play their looks down as if they don’t care about how they look. Saying and putting on as if they actually mean what they say. When my husband first seen a picture of me he thought I was attractive. Only to have another black women say to him “Oh her, you know that she has never had long-long hair.” WHAT!!!-What does that have to do with anything? Why do you have to put someone else down in order to try to glorify yourself. Why does hair and the hue of skin have to validate people or at least they think it does. Now what makes me more upset is the fact that I said this young woman was African American. Not only was she African American but she was mixed somewhere down the line and she had beautiful hair. She clearly thought that her hair made her special or more attractive I suppose. See you may just look at this as if she was a straight hater. I look at it from another stand point, an enslaved mentality and unawareness. She suffers from what I call in my book the Acceptance of being accepted. This means that she thrives off of people telling her that she is better than others based off of these so called attributes. What struck this dialog is I wanted to connect briefly with my readers and supporters. I wanted you to know that I write about things that I believe in. I would never write about something that I have not lived or about what I truly believe in my heart. Too many people are hypocrites. I believe in writing what GOD has put on my heart to write. So, if you have not got your copy of “Pretty for a black girl” check it out and let’s change our mind sets.
My quote “Let’s diminish ugly mindsets and replenish them with a new mind”

You happen to be a beautiful WOMAN and i am SURE you already know that. BTW I an a white male and will buy your book just to support your cause. I thinks its great when anyone tries to stop the BS racism in this country, we all human beings that stand side by side when we have to. God Bless you !
