Hey All,
I’ve been meaning to post this long ago when I first received this paper in the mail. I wanted to know how you all felt about the U.S Census using the word Negro? I am not shocked by this at all. Last year in Italy I was called a Negro American. I just thought it was too funny. You see people don’t know what to call us. ( Literally) I know your probably saying to yourself calling you a Negro is just wrong and not going to cut it. I read that in the 2000 census a large amount of African Americans wrote in Negro as appose to black. So this is why they put it as a option. I’m not sure if they truly did or if that’s the way they will justify using that word. What I was shocked about is we have a Black President and they still got away with using that word. I just think it’s a little to old fashion and they need to remove it as a option. I remember back in 2003 I was working a grave yard shift when a co-worker of mine referred to me as a colored girl. LOL!!! I just started laughing at her and I said ” Girl, no one uses that term colored if you say that to a black person they are going to be real offended” She felt so bad, and had no Idea that she has said something wrong. I had been working with her for awhile and I knew how genuine she was. So that’s why I didn’t get upset automaticly.
Truth is we are American if we were born here then that’s what we are. However, I don’t mind being called African American or Black because I am proud of my roots and culture. I’m actually West Indies, African American, and Irish. Somehow many of us are mixed up with a little bit of something else anyway. So, what did I check????? Drum Roll!!!!
African American of course.. That’s what I am……. There is no need to check each box just because you have a little bit of something else in your blood. Like I said most of us is mixed up with something….
My Daughter was born in Italy, obviously she is African American. However, when she turns eighteen she can make a choice to be Italian or she can choose to be an American. She will not be a African American Italian if she chooses to be a Italian she would be simply that with no color distinction. I honestly don’t know when we will ever not have some sort of issues when it’s regarding our race. This was also my intent for writing the book “Pretty for a black girl” To expose the mindsets of some Individuals.
Just remember know matter who you are or where you come from you share a little bit of history that relates to someone… God Created us all in his likeness and Image….
P.S I think they will be removing it!!!!!!
Please leave your thoughts

I am not sure about submitting my info to the census, what do u think????
